New Lens, New Pictures

Well for a few years now I've been taking digi photo's looking at them on screen, printing 10 in 5000. Never really did much to them after taking either.

Anyway I've decided to get back into photography as a backup to climbing, actually it combines quite well.

Nipped out to Jacobs in Sheffield; very helpfull folks there by the way, picked up a 50mm prime f1.8 lens to play about with.

Most of my kit is standard or at the cheap slow end of the market. So this is my first fast lens and I like it. Cheaper than the zooms I brought and impressive, at least for me. Taken on a Canon 300D body, not a great shot, composition wise though. Also bearing in mind it's 6pm, overcast/in cloud and actually spitting with rain... I'm happy enough for a test run. I like fast lenses now :)

Very nice. Is this the Canon MkII 50mm F1.8 Colin? I just got one of those last week for my 350D :)

It is indeed Steve. Jacobs best price, coupled to a Hoya UV 52mm :)

Binned most of the shots taken from a non-IS sigma 28-200 as it was blowing a right strong wind and really was quite dark. I had the sigma up on ISO800 and still got shake, these are down at 200 and over 500th of a second still.

I really am now toying with some IS f4 glass for that zoom range or cheaper sigma / tamron 2.8 non is as a stop gap...

I might be able to prolong the delete keys life then :)

Out of interest how much was the lense? We're thinking of maybe getting fixed lense 2.8 or less for are christmas disney trip :).

Don't say this forum costs you money ;)

88.09 from Jacobs. If you are unsure, best bet, get it frm Jessops, it will cost a little more, but they have a no quibble returns policy.

Or as I may do, rent one.

I can put you it touch with someone who sells them for £75 delivered.

Had mine a while now and it was great taking pics at my cousins wedding.

I could of told you this a week earlier, but after the effect is so much more effective.

If you could, I presume he/she does other items... At least it saves the price of the filter which is no bad thing :)

Ooo Col, forgot you're a climber! Fancy another climbing buddy?! I'll even share my limited photography knowledge!

Does he/she do any in a Sony/Minolta fit?

Got mine for £67.89 from Fleabay. Not the most robust lens, but gives cracking results!
