Featured Replies

hey guys first time on here so be nice :)right im in the middle of buying a 1.9 sdi fabia which i have fell in love with completely but having met a vrs si on here tonight and chatted with him, hes said that there not very powerful.is there anything i can do to make the car faster ?if not what engine will plug and play?hope you guys can help me out on this cheersBen

Welcome :)

The SDI will never set the world alight.

If you want more power then buy a TDI

Agree look for a TDi and then you will be happy

My wife loves her SDI it aint no speed machine but then again on a 120 mile journey on roads that travelled between 40 and 70ish it managed a lovely 69 MPG power aint everything.

id love a tdi or vrs but the shell on this car is perfect its been modded to a very nice degree everything has been done including full leather interior and other bits.

can you swap sdi engine to a tdi engine ?

or can i get it mapped to something a bit better.

i love the idea of brilliant mpg as again my daily at the minute is mk1 golf gti lol

As has been said, without a turbo to up the boost, your options are limited. But then again, I ran a Dragon digital tuning box for a couple of years, and that gave me a decent performance hike, just by increasing the fuelling. I've done a quick search, and most companies only sell digital tuning boxes for TDIs, but I did find one company that would sell you one that gave you an extra 8bhp (12.5%) from your SDI:

Diesel Tuning UK

It's not cheap, and your insurance will of course be affected. You may be able to get a custom remap to give similar gains from someone that provides them, which would cost a little bit more, and would also affect your insurance.

It's a nice idea in a never-done-before way, but I reckon previous replies have it right in that you should maybe be looking for a TDI in the first place...

We can offer a proper remap for these engines, we developed one on our fabia SDI courtesy car...

Personally if i had an SDI i'd be looking at the possibility of how easy it'd be to turbocharge it ever so slightly...

Given the description it sound like it may be Stuart Hatch's old motor.

what bhp did you get it mapped too ?

again eveything about this car is immaculate its got high mileage but everything has been done on it apart from the engine which is the one bit its going to be lacking.

just need a gd shove in the right direction

Just enjoy it. SWMBO has a SDI and I've a TDI. She loves the SDI and prefers it to the TDI. It is forgiving, economical, unburstable - no turbo to die and flexible. Acceleration is the weak point as you'd expect, but you can't have everything. The old taxis made their reputation on this engine - 300K miles is not unusual.

This is true. My wife's 1.4MPi has a whole 102bhp less than my vRS, but that doesn't make it any less entertaining to drive. Sure, it's never going to win any TLGPs, but making the most of what power is available is part of the fun! :)

cheers guys your slowly persuading me into this.

just used to alot more power than this lol so dunno how ill take to it.

its one of these where the cars that far away if i travel to go see it im gonna be buying it on the spot sort of thing so just wanna make sure im making the right decision

Just out of interest, why are you getting rid of the Golf - that's got to be far more desirable than a customised Fabia anyday...???
