Fabia owner with problem.

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone.

I have just found this site. I have a 2000 Fabia 16v 53,000 miles, on which the cambelt tensioner has just exploded. I have limped into my local main dealer for rectification work. Has anyone else had a similiar problem, i am going to try and get Skoda to meet me halfway with the cost, as the car has full main dealer service history (i have owned it from new) Any comments would be most welcome.

No chance, you should not have even attempted to drive the car.

I was lucky, it has not snapped the belt, just loose,so no bent valves.

Common VAG fault, VW have issued a recall on that engine in thier range to have the tensioners replaced.

No such action as yet from either SEAT or Skoda though as far as I know.

Welcome to Briskoda.

Not heard of that fault before on this Forum. If there is a manufacturing fault with the tensioner you might get some sympathy and help from Skoda UK, and there is nothing to be lost by trying. Is it going to be expensive to fix?

Just seen Ross' expert reply above. Sounds like you have a stronger case than I thought. Good luck.

I had a tensioner collapse on my Polo GTi (1.6 16v) but luckilly nothing happened!

I had the belts and tensioners and waterpump replaced. Job done.
