what oil in my 1.9tdi

Featured Replies

hi all new to the forum could anyone tell me what oil to use in my octavia 1.9tdi 02 reg?

thanks in advance

steven

Fixed or variable servicing as the oil used is different in each case.

I would go and have a look on the opie oils site, their website will tell you. they are sponsors on here and you get a 10% discount because of that.

Agreed, first thing you need to check. If its on long life you can get away with 1/2 litre of normal in an emergency but I always cary longlife oil anyway just in case.

The service book should be the first place to look

right i went to my local motor factors yesterday and he told me the oil they recomend is 0w30 fully synthetic is this ok to use i was not sure if it may be too thin??? as i,ve read somewhere else that i should use 5w30. my car has a fixed service not variable.

any help with this would be great as i want to get the oil changed today even though its raining

If you look in the handbook there should be some reference to a VW oil number, eg.507.01, 505.01, 504.01. As long as the oil you buy meets or betters this requirement then you will not have a problem. My 2.0PD TDi is currently running on Halfords 507.01 (variable servicing).

The octy mk1 manual says any oil that meets.

VW 505 01

VW 507 00

but what do them numbers equate too? as in what oil ? someone must know if i can use 0w30 or not

No you can't use just any old 0W30 or _W__ for that matter in needs to meet the VW spec as stated above.

mines on the fixed interval servicing and the spare bottle I have in the car is 5W40, it then says on the back of the bottle what VAG specs it meets e.g. 505 01.

right i,ve got the bottle sat infront of me and it says

can be used on model years 02 onwards and meets vw 503.00/503.01/506.00/506.01 standards applicable to vag vehicles audi, seat, skoda, and vw using fixed or variable service intervals

so can i use it or not?

argggggggh lol

thanks for all the help guys by the way

steven

Yes, VW506.01 is good enough for variable servicing too.

basically the 5w40 oil is for cars that run on fixed servicing, known in the trade as pd oil. the 5w30 is for vehicles running variable servicing. though the oil must meet vw spec as listed above.

In general PD's need VW506.1 for variable and VW505.1 for fixed servicing, unless they have a DPF.

If they have a DPF they must use VW507.

VW 507 combines all the previous standards for oil and can be used in their place.

VW506.1 oils are 0w-30 rated and VW507.0 oils are 5w-30 rated and have a low ash rating.

It should be noted that the VW standard that is important and not the viscosity rating alone
