Dads Forman E is finally finished.

Boy what a headache I had with this baby. I knew for 200.00 quid without even test driving it, I would have a few issues, but nothing like this lol.

Welding is actual down to a minimum, just a few places, one small area on the rear suspension turret in the buck, one part on the floor in the buck near to the tailgate, and the inner arch in the engine bay near to the nearside bumper bracket.

The bad suprises were when I gave the pickup a service (which by the looks of it, hadnt been done for years), was I found that two of the spark plugs had been cross threaded, so instead of a helicoil jobby, I got a second hand head for 25.00. Nearside brake caliper had seased and had worn one pad right down to nothing, when I took it out, it fell apart. Took the caliper off, and had to unsease it in a vice. Then found that the front two brake hoses were perished, so when pumping the brakes, the hoses swelled up. 4 new nipples too. The gears were very sloppy. Wear on the gearbox end link rod, and in the knuckle on the selector rod. I put a bolt into the worn pin hole, and hit the knuckle pin with a hammer, and it took quite a lot of play out. Missed out on a pair of rear panels, and as you cant get them anymore, I bought a pair of Morris 1000 pickup arches, and with a bit of adaption, they fitted on. The main problem I had was lack of correct tools and equipment, instead of pot riviting or welding the new arches on like I did for my dads Morris 1000 pickup, I used what I had in the house which were countersunk self tappers, so of course I couldnt get a good finish with the filler. It was a hot day, I had a headache, and my dad needed it for the next day, so as it is a workhorse i let my standards drop for that. The only problem is now I have to adjust the tappets, as she isnt running or idoling brilliantly. But apart from that shes done. Repainted her with some white gloss and a roller, will give it a few weeks, then take the top offf with finishing paper, then T cut it to a nice deep shine. I also added some wood on the buck. To be honest, I loved doing it, but glad to give it back to my dad. ;-)

I also bought a second hand alternator which I didnt need, as it sounded like the bearing was a little dry on the one on the car, so I got another for 20.00, but it seems it might now be the water pump pully maybe, its not very loud, but I had better lubricate it just in case. I also had to get TWO reversing light switches as the first new one I put on, got slightly broken when I changed the clutch, which was slipping babdly, took the old one out, and found that the thrust bearing was had worn down the plate cover so much, that it was nearly through, the whole new kit was 30.00 all in including delivery off ebay, which was pretty good!

The 4 way flasher button was not staying in (wonder if that was due to over use maybe ;-), so I bought a whole vent panel with all the buttons off Fleabay. The engine dosent smoke at all, but will be glad to sort out the tappet settings, I know the cleareance is 0.25mm from cold for the 1.3 engine, but dont know the rule of 4, which ones to adjust in sequence.

Oh and the 5 alloy wheels and tyres were 30.00 from a breaker.

Cheers guys! The arches also look great as they come out by an inch at the back, and lean in at the front. I did have one other problem. One side of the buck, was slightly different to other. The first arch (nearside), had to have the arch cut on the inner lip and bent slightly to fit the curves of the pickup, as the Morris sides of the buck are straight. But the other side, fitted on OK with just a small amount of resistance. :-)

They were not cheap either, they woked out about 40.00 each, and I also had to cut the bottom sides of the Morris replacement arches to fit. I could have made them look better if I had the time, but dad needed it the next day for work, as hes a builder. :-)

Use the rule of 9.

With 1 fully open, adjust 8

2 open, adjust 7

3 open adjust 6

etc etc etc:thumbup:

Well, just put the Pickup through an early MOT, it failed on 2 steering rack gaiters which were replaced, replaced o/s rear spring, o/s rear shock absorber, o/s rear wheel bearing, n/s front tyre, number plate light bulb, and the welding which we knew about anyhow, what with sorting the irregular running of the engine and new leads, it all came to including the MOT charge to 260.00 quid.
