About to purchase Octavia Elegance 1.6 TDI Hatch any help with finding a good deal.

Featured Replies

I have been looking around for good deals after deciding to buy, I have been looking at brokers online but today was warned I may be led up the garden path by false promises on prices etc....a dealer said this to me whilst quoting me £700 more than the cheapest broker I have found.

How much flexibility do the dealers have especially with the zero VAT offer on at the moment? I am having second thoughts about using an online broker, so if any of you have used one then your comments may help.

The cheapest quote I have from dealers are £14890 & £15000 otr this includes met paint and spare wheel.

The cheapest quote I have from online brokers are Drive the Deal at £13933, £14195 Car Quake, £14402 Oneswoop & £14595 Autofinders....I am wondering if these deals will actually deliver for the difference of £500-£600 of going to a dealer.

I am able to raise all the capital if needed so finance is not required but I am thinking if I mention this then does it put me in a losing battle when trying to haggle a deal?

I have not bought a new car since 1995 so am rusty, any help or advice is appreciated....I am thinking of spending my day off ringing as many dealers as possible to get the best price.....crazy maybe.

Go to the dealer with them prices and see what they will do. Its what I did and although others on here have got close to the DTD price my dealer could not match that price but bettered broadspeed by over £700.

As for finance skoda are doing 0% on the Octavia and my dealer has done it at low interest with a smaller deposit.

Be cheeky they can only say no!

Drive the Deal price is £14297 for you spec car

They have only in the last day updated their prices to take account of the Skoda price increase of 1st October of £455

Its still worth using this info when ringing dealers, some will turn there nose up at you some will see you as a serious buyer and will talk good prices.

If you go to them with actual spec and colour you want, they know they are just a price away from getting your order.

How far are you prepared to travel, my dealer in Bedford came very close to a DTD price so I ordered

Yep, as has been said - consider dealers outside your area as well. Just take along the figures to a dealer and the good ones should see you're serious, want to deal - and see where you end up.

Also - if 0% is being offered, it might be in your interests to go for that route and 'slow release' your capital? As well, the commission realised by the dealer could make a better deal apparent, as they'll have finance as well as car sales numbers to meet.

Thanks ppl, I have a bit more confidence now to approach the dealers tomorrow as I will ring around probably starting with the Bedford dealer mentioned.

I have no problem travelling if I get the right price, the only problem with finance is that I am out of work because of this recession so it may be difficult to obtain even though my credit is above average.

I will post back with any results I have had and thanks again for your advice, one last question though without sounding thick as this may be a stupid question but do all the new Octavias ordered now have the new style headlights that sweep to the side???? just a thought cheers...

Yes - that's known as the Face Lift models (often abbreviated to FL here). Not sure when they came in, but it was sometime this year??

IIRC It was Jan 09 for most Octavia models. The VRS and Scout was announced in July and became available in August

Hi,

Give Jeremy a ring at Rainworth Skoda of Mansfield 01623 623400. I ordered from them

last week as they matched DTD to within £10, as did Pg220 who is a site member after i replied to his post. They will also honour the vat @ 15% if the car arrives in January.Well worth a phone call.Good luck.

Mansfield Skoda come back with a price of £14450, approx £60 more than online but quite fair, I did add front mudflaps and Maxi dot to my order too, plus no extra vat if my order does not deliver until January

Am quite tempted.....will I get cheaper???

That sounds like an excellent deal - if the dealer has been helpful then they deserve your money.

Excellent. You could have spent ages shopping around and still only saved a tenner - on something of that size I really don't see the point in trying to wring every last penny out of the deal. If you've got a decent dealer nearby then use them.

What colour did you go for, and how long have you got to wait?

I was torn between black, anthracite grey or silver, after some thought I went with silver as it looks classy, I was told about 11 weeks so that would be xmas eve what a nice prezzie, either way I got a price promise that I wont be hit with the vat increase.

I do have to collect the car from the dealer in Nottingham 300 miles from me on the south coast but its worth it.

Am looking forward to getting to know everything about it!!!
