HELP! Need to change a broken fog light...

Featured Replies

I think a stone chip did it. Dealer is looking £30 +VAT to fit a replacement. Can anyone tell me how to do it myself? Is it clipped in? Do I remove the grill?

Thanks in advance....

If thats supply and fit, That's a good price!

That is a good price. Jorily want £20.00 plus postage for a new one, but you might get a cheaper one from a breakers. Both mine on my 51 Elegance have lost all their internal reflective coating (replacing them is on the "to do" list), so watch any you get from breakers aren't going the same way.

If you look in your handbook where it tells you how to change bulbs it details how to remove the fog light, as you have to remove the unit to change the bulb. The black plastic insert next to it needs to be removed first (where the towing eye hides on one side) by careful releasing of the retaining clips with a screwdriver, through the insert itself at the top. There are two clips. Release the one closest to the number plate first and pull the insert out slightly and then release the second, nearer the foglight. The foglight is held in with two screws, but on one side the external temperature sensor (if fitted) is also fitted to one of the screws, so make sure you note how it is fitted if it is on the side you are replacing.

If you haven't got a handbook, the one available for download is no good as the foglights changed, and it deals with the new ones, which are nigh on impossible to get out. PM me with your email address and I'll send you a scan of the relevant pages, but the handbook does say that it is recommended that a dealer changes the foglight bulbs.

Eh no, that's just to fit... he was looking £40 + VAT for the supply bit.

Had been looking at a couple of ones for sale on ebay, but I'll check out that Jorily thing, hadn't heard of him/them/it.

Woolfy, thanks very much - I'll look at the handbook now, but those instructions of yours look pretty good.

Just had a look at their site and it looks like it's £24.99 plus postage. Is there a discount available somehow?

A slightly cheaper alternative is this one on ebay, but maybe it's worth going with Jorily for original Skoda parts?

Sorry, I was basing the price on a pair at £38.00. It might be worth doing the pair if the reflector is peeling on the other side like mine.

I bought a new foglamp from Ebay, the part was made by Depo, and I got it all inc del for £22.

Fitting is simply a case of releasing the black grill (just yank out), and undoing 1x torx screw (T20 size).

Unclip the electric cable, remove lamp, take out the bulb.

fit the old bulb to new lamp, and refit the electric cable, and refit the new lamp..

The only other thing is to point the car upto a vertical wall (garage door will do), turn on the fog lights, and adjust the level of the new lamp (there's a phillips screw to turn to make the light go up or down) to meet the same level as the other fog lamp.

The whole process can be done in under 10mins!

Just ordered one Jorily - thanks for adjusting the price, that's great service!

Thanks also for all the good advice on here.

No problem, a price adjustment was on the cards this weekend anyway. We are now getting lower prices from our suppliers so we can pass that saving on to our customers.
