I know this question has been asked before but I have totally confused myself looking for the right answer.

56 plate Octavia II Ambiente TDi DSG with no diesel particulate filter on a variable service routine but I change the engine oil frequently at least once a year and never more than 10,000 miles between oil changes.

Now the handbook says on a fixed service I must use a VW 507 01 spec oil or on a variable service a VW 506 01 spec oil.

I don't know which oil to use and have just noticed that at the last oil change (due again soon) the dealer used Castrol GTX which I suspect meets none of the specs listed above.

Help please.

VW506.01 & VW507.00 is fine for variable servicing (you can't use VW506.01 with a DPF)
