Featured Replies

Hi Guys

Im new to the forum so a big hellooooooo

i went through a rather large puddle on tuesday which somehow snapped the engine mounting bracket which holds the alternator and power steering pully in place.

just been quoted £488 by Alex Laurie Skoda in Liverpool to do the job and i nearly fell off my chair.

been quoted £288 for a new repacement part b uts that just seems mad to me!!

im trying to get a replacement new or used but its so difficult to track down

is there anyone who can help or at least give me some advice on the part

many thanks

rob

Car breakers are your best source if you want to repair it yourself

As with a fair few posts on here, standard advice seems to be try a VW dealer for a quote. Apparently, quite often they're cheaper. Or scan around for a VW/VAG specialist in your area.

Breaker. This is a non-wearing part which can be visually assessed so a secondhand bracket carries no risk. Many breakers are highly organised and parts can be ordered online - I've sourced several obscure bits this way.

It must have been some puddle - is your undertray mssing?

rotodiesel.

I'd say if was a metal casting fault myself, just happened right at the same time as the puddle.
