kwik fit pain

Featured Replies

I know the long or short of it is that its my own fault for going there (i had my reasons!)

But I had my discs/pads changed at kwik fit. ever since, the drivers side front brake squeals like a bugger when turning right without braking.

Took it back today, they had my car from about 10am till 4.45pm (arghh) and said the anti squeal shim was bent, and fitted another. Looks like they cleaned them up too, can see fresh copper slip and some white spray/foamy stuff on there (no idea what that is).

Thing is, it still squeals like a squealy thing. I will be wasting another day with them tomorrow, but what else could be causing it?

Was fine before they were fitted, and it goes away with very light braking so its definitely brake related

just drive it like you stole it , the squeal should go away

seriously though, i wouldn't worry about it, the brakes work , its just one of those things that can happen when you go to Kwikfit

lol the more aggressive i drive the louder it gets! seems to happen as they heat up

frickin annoying noise

Hey buddy i used to be one of the first people to tell others to stay clear of Kwik Fit BUT after a recent issue involving a SKODA dealership and tyres i have to say you cant get better than a kwik fit fitter (yeah i know its quicker). The guys in my local kwik fit were brilliant at solving a problem in half an hour that the dealership took four hours to look at and still couldnt solve the problem. So for me its a big  to Kwik Fit.

kwik fit use cheap ****. Thats why they squeal. Plus they are useless scamming part fitters who put grease monkeys to shame!

Well my opinions of kwik fit just shot up a bit. Without any arguement they suggested grabbing some skoda oem pads at no cost to me and fitting them next week. The guy seems to know what he's doing but probably doing the best with the parts he was given. Hopefully this will sort it out!

To be fair, Kwik-Fit vary, but you'll never find me going there. A set of decent pads and a clean up should have it sorted.

Hope the OEM pads sort it out - at least your guy sounds like he knows what he's doing. :) I've just spent a day looking at the discs & pads on my "new" Fabia - the previous owner took it to one of the national franchises (not KwikFit), and not only does it look like they fitted the pads the wrong way round (so the pad one labelled "pistonside" wasn't), but it also looks like they didn't bother cleaning any of the crud off the discs ... :(

Would hope the new pads sort it matey, i've used cheap pads before and they used to scream like mad.

Yeah, I had this problem also after using cheap pads, I ended up putting a chamfer on the leading edges of the pads which cured the squeal but lesson learnt, subsequent pads fitted were o.e.m.

Gives me more hope that the oem's will sort it (albeit it from your initial pain :P) :)

For the record, my mot was about a month overdue. kwik fit were the only people who could do it without me losing more time off work or driving illegally for a few days :thumbdwn:

sounds more like the backplate catching the disc in my opinion. has this been checked? its very very easy to bend them and then when you go round a corner the slight flex in hub components causes it to catch the disc.

hmm if it is, is it a case of just bending it back? I'm not giving up the chance to have free oem pads fitted but if it squeals after them this will be the first thing i'll try
