Bump Strips AARRGGG

Featured Replies

hey. when i purchased my fabia i had a lose bump strip on the drivers side, pulled it off to find there was no glue left behind, tried the same on the other side and it was a different case, glue and adhesive left all over my door. have been reattatching with many different things but one has fell off leaving me with just one now and i want to remove the lot. what do i need to use to get all that F**KING glue off as this is really really annoying me now. Thanks :)

To get the remaining bump strips off, heat up around the area with a hairdryer, then 'saw' through the softened adhesive with fishing line or dental floss.

A bit like what you've noticed, you'll see that this probably leaves a substantial enough amount of adhesive foamy rubbery stuff on the door. This bit takes more time...liberal amounts of tar remover (the autoglym stuff seems to work, or Autosmart Tardis) to start to dissolve the mess, and then carefully scrape it off with the edge of an old credit card or similar.

A quick polish and wax later, and you should be sorted

Good luck.

:iagree:

However, count yourself lucky the paintwork is okay! Quite a few of us have took the strips off to find the dreaded paint bubbles!

Which is covered under warranty and not a problem :)

Are you sure? I know people have asked at the dealers and been told it only a 3 year warranty!

Not neccesarily true. I had mines refused due to the car being an 05 so therefor is outside the manufacturers warranty so factory defects such as this are not covered. I now have to buy new bumpstrips as it's cheaper than respraying both sides of my car
