(Mods, please move if this is not in a suitable place, thanks)

Hi all, yes I know, I haven't posted for over a year and here I am, about to ask something that I probably shouldn't..

I've got to sell my Octy. Times are tight and I have to get my priorities right, I've put it off for as long as I can and its not an easy choice. :(

Thing is (and I knew this from the moment I started working on the car) that I am going to have the smallest of markets to which the car will appeal, 'why' I hear you ask?

Well..

Imagine, if you will, and Ocean Green Skoda Octavia hatch with less than 49k on the clock. Now picture the inside of a rally car.. picture the 6 point roll cage, bucket seats, harnesses, imagine a sunroof replaced with polycarbonate and complete lack of anything even remotely practical, no carpets, no roof-lining, door cards or a stereo (although.. it does still have the aircon!) Now, add a whole heap of suspension and handling mods, KW's, arbs, bushes, some engine work, intakes, FMC', vRS brakes with uprated discs and pads, sticky tyres and a custom exhaust. Imagine a car over 100kg lighter than standard and with an additional 80bhp over the factory setting. Now, put this car on a track and watch as peoples jaws drop and passengers giggle like little children. Even with all this, you could still park this car in the middle of a carpark and watch as everyone walks past it, because it still 'just looks like a Skoda'..

That's pretty much where my cars stands today and whilst its exactly where I wanted it, I know its a million miles away from where a car with 'general' appeal would stand.

So, what do I do? I know the car isn't worth anything like the sum-of-its-parts, its potential market is somewhat 'limited'.. and then there's the fact that I can't put 'never raced or rallied' on the advertisement .. how would you price a car like this?

I was thinking of starting at 'standard' market value for an unmodified car of a similar age and spec and going from there?? I'm not asking for offers, just peoples views. Thanks all.

I don't know whether the FOR SALE rules would allow an "offer over £xxx" type scenario but might be worth a PM to mods and see

Just out of interest, do you really 'have' to sell it? I appreciate it's a little lacking on creature comforts, but it's still driveable on the road, right? I imagine you'll only get a couple of grand for it, and you'll be needing to find something to replace it with...???

I might be interested in something like that, if the price was right ;)

If I'm brutally honest with myself, yes, it has to go.. but hopefully my plan is to revisit some sort of 'track toy' in a couple of years time. Its still perfectly road legal and actually quite comfortable even over longish distances, but that's not really my issue. At the moment I do have another car, with rear seats (which is quite important and actually the deal maker here).. a change in circumstances has halved the number of cars I can park so one has to go (and the practical side of my head overruled the emotional side of my heart..). I'd be sorry to see it go, but 'needs must' as they say.

Maybe it's worth seeing how much it would be to store it, if you're planning on going back there in the future...??? OK, garage storage is going to cost you upwards of a grand per year, but a plot on a caravan yard would be more like a few hundred per year. In the end, how much would it cost to do that as opposed to taking a 'project' and race-prepping it a few years down the line?

Just my 2ps...

ap0gee, I have given that some thought in the last few months. Maybe SORN'ing the car, changing the insurance to F&T, perhaps buying a trailer (with the saving) to get the car to and from track days (negating the need for a full years tax) and just 'laying' the car up in someone's drive or garage between track days. But, as I said, I have to get my priorities right and look at the here-and-now and ultimately the most sensible thing for me to do at this point in time would be to sell up.

Its not like I won't be able to track my other car if I really felt the need and I'm sure I'd still have a blast, so its not all bad and I'd have something to look forward to in the future when the time is right..
