I've just killed my laptop :(

Not saying your chap was wrong but I'd take out the memory and try it.

I've seen a few (desktops) sit with a black screen and nowt happening because the memory was fubar.

I'd pop the hard disk out at the same time and anything else that will unplug.

It's not impossible that the fan sender could be out or the heatsink dislodged as mentioned. CPUs are often designed not to fire up without detecting a cooling system of sorts.

I'd pull the bugger apart to check. You've nothing to lose really. Should be resell-able for spares on Ebay. Someone will want the screen or you could buy one with a damaged screen and swap out the motherboard.

I would expect BIOS warnings on any of the issues above TBH, especially RAM and CPU related. Could be worth a try though.

AR41 spares on the open market are a little scarce on the ground, given the high-value/spec of the model. Not seen any about with damaged screens; that would be the best outcome definitely :)

Did the memory thing and had a quick fiddle to see if anything is loose when at the Lappy Doctors, but no luck.:(

I am so busy at the moment I haven’t had time to get anything done re contacting Sony about a fix. Probably have to wait till next week before I get a quiet period.

That’s the sad thing about this lappy, even though it is a few years old, it would still be considered to be a fairly good laptop by today’s standards, at least it has plenty of extra doodads.:(
