Fabia Tyre Wear

Featured Replies

Does anybody else finf the Fabia bad for tyre wear on the front wheels? I used to have a SDI Comfort, which exhibited a lot of wear on the outer edge of the passannger side tyre and the inner edge of the driver side tyre. I noticed this after about 11000 miles. I swapped the fornt tyres with the rears at 13000 miles. At my 20000 mile service the dealer told me I needed to change the rears as they were illegal. I took the car to an independent, who told me that they were still legal as it was the tread depth over the middle 3/4 of the tyre that mattered.

I changed the tyres to Michelin Energys and got them put on the front. Everything seemed fine and the tyre wear seemed even after that. I traded the car in after 32000 mile for a Fabia TDI Elegance in March. I have done 8500 miles and the same tyre wear pattern is appearing. Is this the Continental's that are poor? I don't drive particularly hard.

I did query the garage on the SDI when I first noticed it and they said that the diesel engine may be causing it, coupled with the fact that I use a lot of roundabouts. A neighbour (who is in his 70s so I doubt he rallies around the country) asked me about the same problem ( he has a Fabia 1.4 MPI Classic). That ruled out the diesel argument I hade been given.

Can anybody give me any info on this please?

I had excessive wear on my driver's front tyre but the garage put this down to a worn out track-rod-arm thingummybob and since having that replaced the tyres appear to be wearing nice and evenly. What tyre pressures are you running the tyres at, and have you had the tracking checked?

Btw, my tyres are Ceat cheapy specials, but they were on the car when I got it and looked pretty new - I've since covered about 12k. :)

The tyre pressures are those recommended on the inside of the fuel flap. Tracking on existing car hasn't been checked, but was on SDI and was fine.

There might be a problem with some furbies coming out the factory not quite setup right - my first Fabia used to go through 14" tyres quite quickly, despite being "eco-contacts" lol.

Having since visited AMD and getting them to sort my alignment out (and heat up a track rod to melting point to free it up... ) Its been top notch and I'm still on my first set of Toyo Proxes on the front, put on about 15K ago and have had some abuse too.

on my vrs I think there is probably about another 2k of life left on them, so in all about 12K they will last for, that's with a little track day aswell
