How Much Torque?

Featured Replies

Hi Folks,

I'm constantly sitting on the fence as to get a remap or not on my Fabia 1.9TDI PD100.

I'm aware of all the potential stress placed on clutch/turbo/etc but wondered does anyone know what the OEM clutch is rated at in terms of how much torque it is designed to handle? I'm certain I've seen this somewhere on here or elsewhere before but cannot find it.

I've looked on a couple of parts sites and they don't really list any spec except 'this is the model for your car'.

I'm not after a huge performance increase, I'd rather have a balance of power/MPG/Smoother delivery and therefore aren't looking at wanting to replace the clutch with any performance option.

Thanks for any help you can provide! :)

Don't worry about the technicalities, whoever the tuner is they will know how much extra power to give you.

Err, wanna bet? The idea of a 'tuner' now-a-days seems to be a guy, in a rented work shop selling £30 remaps for £300....

Anyway, as far as I am aware a remap on the PD100 would see 130-140bhp and 230lb.ft, which is more than safe for the standard clutch.

It is a item that wears over time, so remap or not it will give up sooner or later. Anyone who says it wont be sooner, with a remap is lieing. It will be. How soon, well you decide that on your driving...

I remember looking on jabbasport and the figures you quoted T-Spark seemed to be what they were advertising.

That's good to know, the general consensus for a VRS owner having a stage 1 remap would be to replace the clutch with something 'better' once it begins to slip. I just want to be happy knowing an OEM replacement would be satisfactory (and of course, I appreciate driving style affects wear and tear)

Thanks!

...Oh and in regard to the map, I'd probably go to one of the companies registered to this forum but is it as necessary having the car go somewhere with a rolling road if I'm not in it for every ounce of power?

Cheers

IIRC the PD100 clutch isnt EXACTLY the same as the PD130 clutch, however I doubt it would struggle with 230lb.ft unless it was already on its way out.

I think if it did 'wear' and needed replacing, depending on price a OEM would probs do the trick for you.

I dont know every 'company' that is registered here, but from what I know of from another well known VAG forum, just because they paid to throw up their ad on there doesnt mean they are the best for you or even know what they are doing, dont just go to the 'cheap & cheerful' companies you hear about, to save £50-100. Just think how much you spent on getting your car, and then think ohh a £50 saving..... After car care is worth its weight in gold, your cars weight as it happens!

Ive heard of some shocking ideas of after car care, from several 'big known' companies on the VAG scene, when the guys have spent £1,000's with them....

One thing I can say is you mention JabbaSport, ive had dealings with them, never heard any one say anything negative about them. Ive had a A.T.B. diff fitted by them, and they know their stuff. The only issue I had/have with them is the R/ARB that should have been powered coated on mine clearly wasnt (or done right?) and all the paint as flaked off under 2 years of it being on the car. However, they were willing to replace like for like, but I had to pay postage, and arrange delivery and im lazy! Besides, sooner or later my car will no doubt end up back down there for something, as they are one out of two tuning companies in the whole VAG scene id trust with my car!

Anyway, rant over (even if its a good one!)

Great thanks, I have read a few nightmare stories myself. I'm based in North Yorkshire so Jabba isn't too far to travel, and their pricing seems reasonably competitive at £295. Do you mind me asking the name of the other company you'd personally recommend?

Many Thanks

Not at all, its the same company that has mapped mine 14 months ago.

RS Tuning based in Leeds.

No where near as big as JabbaSport, or as well known on the VW side of things as they normally work on Renault's.

I am based in South Yorkshire myself, and it takes 45 minutes maybe to get there? Not sure on their prices but might the fuel you save travelling further might make it up?

A friend of mine has had his Caddy VW mapped at RS, on the rollers its his work horse so didnt want any smoke etc and is still happy with it years later :)

They might be a sponser on here too.

Yes I looked at RS tuning actually after reading someones review on this forum but I do remember them being considerably more expensive. I'll re-check them out and drop them a line! It would certainly be quicker to pop over to Leeds.

Thanks!

Yup, like you say dont think they are the cheapest on the market. If you do ring/e-mail ask for Paul, tell him I sent ya ;) Might work, never know :D

I'll await the outcome and see what they quote!

I would highly recommend another site sponser. Performance Torque. IIRC approx £265 inc of before and after rolling road. I have used them for my Vrs and it made 170 bhp and 290lbs and the clutch has been spot on for 10k and still going strong. Very smooth map no torque spike

Matt

I recommend performance torque, had my vrs done there 170bhp and 295lbs torque.I had my first race against a clio 172 the other day ironically my last car i left the poor bugger behind bless him. I was shocked the red mist descended im normally very sensible guess it was just because it was my old car lol.
