Extra Interior Lighting

Featured Replies

Hi there guys i have a felicia with the centre consle that has the speaker grille looking sides to it and i had a thought to maybe put in some lights behind there but was wondering if it is possible to wire them up in a way that means they only come on when the doors open like the courtesy light in the roof

Any ideas or opinions on this...

Hi there.

I have done pretty much exactly this.

1. I took a positive and negative from the interior light by opening up the light and soldering a wire to the positive and negative sides of the bulb holder.

2. I then ran the wires down under-neath the dash to either side and also down the passenger side kick panel to run wires through to the rear seat.

3. I got some of these kind of bulb holders from ebay. They are available in different lengths and I bought them from this seller:

1pc 31mm 3022 3175 Festoon Dome Socket Bulb Holder :eBay Motors (item 220496797969 end time Oct-25-09 02:53:05 PDT)

4. I then wired the bulb holders up and screwed them under the drivers seats and also in the front foot wells. I used the plastic ventilation tube to secure them in the front of the car that way you can't actually see the bulbs unless you croutch down but they light up the foot wells really well.

Then what was it. When the interior light comes on so do the footwell lights. To finish it off I also made it so that the interior lights come on when the doors are unlocked and then go off when the ignition is turned on or the doors are locked. I also got an oficial part off ebay second hand that plugs into the interior light socket in line with the original connector and basically creates a time delay for when the lights turn off so instead of them turning off straight away as soon as the door is closed they stay on for about 10-15 seconds. They do not do this is the ignition is on though.

Will try and get some pics later.

Also I have installed some of these in the rear where the grab handles are on the roof lining:

Have a serach around for these many available. They are from a Ford Galaxy/Seat Alhambra/VW Sharan. Again theses are just wired up to the interior light and come on when that is on. Although they can be wired up to a permanant live as they have switched on them.

This is what they look like installed:

Hope that helps.

cool thanks for the info just out of curiosity what would give more light/look better for footwell lighting neon's or LED's

I would personally got for LED's. They are generally smaller without all the extra wiring needed for neon lighting. And my personally taste would be to go for either white LED's or normal bulbs and not colored ones as that would just look tacky!

I just have normal bulbs and they kick out loads of light and it looks pretty good.

Will get a shot of it in the dark so you can get a feel of what it looks like.
