IPOD connection - Fabia VRS Symphony Unit

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I know there are several thread regarding this issue, however due to my basic knowledge and own circumstances I was hoping someone could clarify which option would be best for me.

I own a fabia vrs (04 plate) which contains a symphony HU.

I want connect my ipod to this HU (do not want to replace) but not connect via FM transmitter as I know the quality is not great through a transmitter.

I do have the CD changer under the passenger seat, however this is knackered and I and cannot see the point in getting this fixed.

I have seen threads about the Dension Gateway and xcarlink (seen a poor review on this) and wonder whether Dension is the best option. I am not fussed however to control my ipod via the HU.

I basically want a 3.5mm jack to plug my ipod into or something along those lines.

I wondered whether there was anything could do in terms of using the wiring to my redundant cd changer?

Any responses will be grealty appreciated.

Cheers

I'm torn between 3 options -

1) Uses the 3.5mm jack to connect, doesn't charge the iPod but retains the CD changer. £33.50

2) Uses the iPod dock and so charges the iPod but does away with the CD changer. Around £50

3) Uses the iPod dock and so charges the iPod but retains the CD changer. Around £75

Great - thanks guys. I think I will go with the Connects2 Ipod link @ £50ish.

Is the feedback on these positive and are they good value for money?

I'm happy with mine, No CD's rattling around, And 16gb worth of music, I bought myself a car charger so i'm completely sorted!

I fitted a Connect2 a couple of weeks ago.

Works well. The only difficulty was fitting the unit behind the player. Shoving in the top right area and pushing it down a bit seemed the only place so the radio went fully back.

Some other points.

Hacksaw blade didn't work for me (mine was just a bit too thin) so bought a set from Halfords - Kenwood type.

If the Classic iPod, on a website it mentions you must have software version 8. They all come with this now and is a certain digit on the metal box (can't remember which now) NOT an 8 on the barcode.

I used the 'screw' with rubber cover on the centre back for the 'earth' and put a nut with a locking type washer to hold the wire (vibtrations could make just a nut come loose).

After buying (for the Classic) the recommended voltage converter 12V to 6V so the iPod can be charged it seems it is not needed. Checked with Connect2 techs and they seem to think it is OK not to have it between the iPod and the unit's output. If anyone does get one, the plastic iPod protective case needed filing down so the converter would fully fit and connect.

Drilled hole through centre cubby-hole box for the wire and iPod fits fairly well in this.

The box fits nicely above the stereo on the shelfy thing behind the switches!

The earth wire...................Hang on heres a pic!

hi. I have a vrs fabia le with the sympony stereo and the cd changer.

I would like to put a ipod intergration kit into the standard radio. I want to be able to control the ipod throught the stereo and keep the cd changer.

I see xcarlink do a kit that allows me to do this and i believe the dension kits require unplugging the cd changer. Do any other kits allow the use of the cd changer and a ipod. I have a ipod 5g video that i want to use and a 3g 4gb mini

the skoda dealer said they do a kit that "he thinks does both" but was unsure of the make.

have searched but only really found the xcarlink one. thanks

Taken from the post above I presume the bottom option is the one you're after.

I'm in the same boat is you - vRS LE.

I've only found the options listed above. I'm tempted by the dearest option because it gives me the best of all worlds, keep the charger, add iPod and charge iPod.

I'm going to contact them and ask them what control this option would give me over the iPod and how (which buttons) would it work.

I'm not sure which model I need to go for though -

2 x 6 pin

or

8 pin ISO

I have now fitted the connects2 ipod mechanism but the HU has lost all power.

The connects2 has power, as does the cd changer if plug that in. We have tested all the wires with a different HU and they work which tells me there is a problem with the actual HU.

Anyone know what the problem maybe?

If dead what cost am I looking at for a new HU? (Symphony)

Sounds silly but have you checked the fuse in the back?

Will my oem CD multichanger still operate with the Connects 2 iPod adaptor? (The wiring will be the same for my Octavia as it is for the Fabia)

Cheers,

Steve:)

I don't think it will with the Connects2 adaptor. It replaces the CD autochanger connection.
