Not sure whether this is a problem or not...

Featured Replies

On my way home tonight, car been behaving impeccably, and just driving up a hill near my house. Doing about 40mph, 4th gear, relatively low revs, traffic ahead clears so I put my foot down (genlty, not a massive bootful) and the car starts to torque its way up the hill. About a second after it starts to accelerate, and just about where the turbo should come on song and whisk the car away it suddenly stops pulling, a really noticeable thump when the torque stops, and then a second later the torque comes back in, exactly as expected, and drags the car up the hill as quickly as it ever does.

Perplexed I turn around and try and emulate the problem, even labouring the gear to exaggeratedly low revs, but cannot get it to repeat. No warning lights, no wheelspin.

Anybody got any ideas what it might have been, whether it's likely to be repeated and what (if anything) I ought to be looking out for?

Turn up at the next meet and we can diagnose it , big hint there phil

Get it on VAG-COM. Might be sticky N75 or turbo vanes causing n overboost that then cleared- though this usually takes an ignition cycle.

Thanks for that. (Not you Peter...!) :D

My immediate thought was "uh-oh, turbo" because of where it happened in the revs, but was totally flummoxed when it cleared in an instant. Driven car to work today, nothing doing at all, even though I was dawdling around in traffic at low revs and trying to antagonise it into a repeat.

Hopefully there'll be no repeat and I can get it on the laptop next time it goes in.

Vacuum leak is also a possibility, so check the conditions of the pipes.
