grinding when cornering from rear

Recommended Posts

Morning,

Right where to start. There is a grinding noise coming from the rear passanger wheel when going round a roundabout or cornering to the right! Pads look ok no sign of damage to the disk either.

I have tried doing a break test and there is no grinding when breaking. The car is not all over the road so it cant be a bearing.

Cars had MOT and service about a month ago and nothing come up (the problem only started last week)

Any ideas????

Could still be a wheel bearing. Doesn't have to be all over the place. When one went on my Octy there was no play in the wheel whatsoever although that was a front bearing as opposed to rear.

Alternative could be a broken spring but I think you'd notice the difference in ride height on the affected corner if it was sufficiently low for it to rub!

Or it could be something stuck in the spring or wheel arch, or the wheel arch liner could be loose.

It could also be a broken spring, that only moves under load.

Get the wheel off and have a good look around (comparing it to the other side for reference) Check the wheel and tyre for any rub marks to discount that and then give the hub a damned good yank about to see if there is any play in it.

You can't test a wheel bearing without it being under load, if all else like the brakes and spring are ok then you will have to assume it's the bearing. They are relatively easy to change.
