Rear Ended superb - what to look out for?

Featured Replies

My superb received a shunt from behind.

It's in the body shop and needs a new rear bumper/boot/parking radar and a ton of clips.

What should I look out for when picking it up?

Has anyone else had similar damage done?

Thanks!

Have the rear axle alignment checked by someone who knows how to do it (probably not a dealer).

It's hard to set and harder to get right on these cars and it seems to go out of alignment very easily. Also remove the spare wheel and check the boot floor for distortion.

rotodiesel.

Check for any condenstation in the Rear Lamps, which will mean either they have been fitted incorrectly or they are damaged from the shunt and letting too much air into the lamp......:thumbdwn:

If you also keen on the perfect paintwork finish then watch out for buffer trials and swirling if it's been washed badly after having been painted........:thumbdwn:

Thanks chaps, its supposed to be ready tomorrow, so will know more then.

In the mean time I have a 2 litre diesel 3 series bimmer which is quite a nice drive.

Get a hose and run the water from the middle of the rear screen and hold it there for 5 minutes, open the boot and see if it's still dry inside, open the windows and drive it at around 20 mph and listen for rumbles, check all the electrics still work ok, and finally, don't stop so dam quick next time! :)
