Mk1 vRS Faulty Temp Sender?

Featured Replies

My Wife has been using our MK1 vRS for work and the engine warning light has come on.

My local garage, has diagnosed a faulty temp sender. He reset the engine fault code and ordered me a new temp sender. (not fitted yet)

It has happened again tonight along with the hazard warning lights rapidly clicking with no flash.

The hazard light fault seems to be a common fault and I have ordered a new hazard light warning switch / relay.

My local garage has said he hasnt had to change a temp sender on a Golf or an Octavia before?

Has anyone experienced the same fault?

Many Thanks :)

If it's the coolant temp sensor it is pretty common for these to go wrong. Skoda changed them - the old dodgy ones are grey the revised ones are green. Easy job to change, 5 minutes work plus top up the coolant.

The indicator relay went on mine too, that's a 30 second job to change over. Mine went all lazy and would only flash every few seconds.

I'm suprised the local garage hasn't changed a vag coolant sensor before. Most of the people I know who own or have owned recent vag cars have had to change this sensor!

Thanks for that, I haven't really had a problem for 5 years then 2 at once!

Whats next? Coil packs I guess.

I have just changed my mind on swapping it for a new one too! (New vRS)

Yep, coolant sensor fail all the time. Bought one from my local vw vag spares dept last year from ym old golf and the guy there told me they keep them under the desk so they don't have to bother walking back into their stores!

First thing I bought for my son when he bought his Golf

I got him one before his failed

Then a 007P DV

The new one is superceeded , that was back when I used to work in Skoda dealerships

059 919 501A is the part number

Fitted hundreds of these with all the places I have worked

What they said! I've changed mine too, piece of piddle to do in 5mins. If you do it make sure the engine is stone cold, and take off and refit the coolant reservoir cap before (to make sure there is no pressure in the system and to seal the system again to stop all the coolant flooding out). I only lost a tiny amount of coolant this way, and didnt need to top up.

Replace the temp sensor and Hazard warning switch and everything is great again. Thanks for the help!
