FL octavia has more of a harsh ride?

Featured Replies

i got a fl Octavia 1.8tsi, i have put the optional 225/45/17 tires, i have filled 32psi in all tires but my ride is very harsh, especially here in india are roads are terrible, u can feel all the bumps on bad roads, was the earlier octavia smoother then the current FL model? anyone got a chance to compare them both??

I agree, see the thread below. I feel my new Octavia also 1.8tsi has a very firm and sometimesjiggly ride, which i didn't notice when test driving a pre-facelift

the wheel size of a golf was never meant to have comfort with 17 " rims. too few rubber left for suspension.

I'd say 32psi is a tad too much for terrible roads, living in Malta and having terrible roads as well I keep mine at around 28psi and find the ride very comfy, could be the tyre size though, try and replace with slightly higher profile rubber.A 5 % increase in height over the width will make a world of difference say from 45 to 50 profile ... even the make of rubber makes a differnece.my Octy had dunlops before but since I changed to Barum's,keeping the same profile, the ride is completely different ....

I read somewhere that they made the suspension on the facelift a little stiffer but this wa a review of the FL VRS. Not sure if it's true. I find my pre-FL to be absolutely fine ride wise. A good compromise between ride quality, feel and sportiness when you chuck it about. Road noise is a bit high but that's the stupid Dunlops.

Here they reckon it's 7mm lower than before. Skoda Octavia vRS facelift pictures - News - iMOTOR

EDIT - Here they also mention 'sports tuning' on the suspension. http://www.motordaily.co.uk/20090423-skoda-octavia-vrs-facelift-unveiled/

tried 30psi, big differnce compare to 32psi, i think i will stick to 30psi as the ride is much more bearable, with 32psi the car is very harsh on bad roads, u feel every little bump, on 30psi the ride is much more bettter & smoother, the tires on 30psi dont even look under inflated, they look fine to me, why is skoda recommending such high psi for the 225/45/17 tires??

strange..

well the ride is still not great & i am planning to go back to 16" rims for the octy now, hope 205/55/16 will be better for our bad roads in mumbai (india),

the 225/45/17 are terrible for bad roads tried all types of air pressure but the ride is too harsh :wonder:
