Air conCompressor part numbers!

Featured Replies

Hi

Im looking at replacing the compressor on my 2001 TDI due to a clutch failure!

Ive had a look on ebay and theres loads of them but none that match the number that is on mine.

Are these parts interchangeable?

Or is it a case of having the exact right part?

My part number is 1J0 820 803K i can find lots of them but the number is slightly differnet ie 1J0 820 803b for example doe sthis matter and does anyone know what it means

Thanks in advance

Dan

The lower down the alphabet the last the last letter is, then the older revision the part is. ie. your "k" will be a newer than the "b".

If your looking at replacing the whole unit then I would expect it would be ok (same fixtures and fittings, just the way the thing works may have differed), but a quick call to a dealer would confirm that before shelling out cash on a part which may not work.

This is something I need to find out too. I need to find a new compressor as mine is goosed.

As it happens ive just managed to get one from ebay, with the same srial number, so all good!

But isnt the clutch failure on these cars a common fault?

I think so mate, keep me updated with your findings :)

From what i can gather the letter after the number is just a refference for the year it was made so any with the same part number minus the letter will work.

both are right , letters supercede each other as they change the part but sometimes a different letter means a totally different part, if you want the latest part number for your vehicle pm me your reg and i'll send it you my mk1 vrs is 1J0 820 803 L
