Reporting a potentially dangerous car?

Featured Replies

Is there a prescribed method for doing this? I see a 3-Series parked up near me quite often and noticed this morning that it's down to canvas on the rear tyres

I wouldn't really want to be near that should it need to stop quickly. Is there some way I can get something done about, short of leaving a note on the windscreen?!

Cheers,

Steve

A handful of carelessly-spilled carpet tacks?

I wouldn't bother with a note, unless you fancy a baseball bat taking fancy to your Octy.

Give the local police a bell mate :)

Nah, it's not like that round here Tom :) There would be no way of the owner knowing who'd left the note anyway...

Might give the local cop shop a bell then

Cheers,

Steve

Cheers, that did cross my mind earlier about CrimeStoppers actually, but seemed a bit OTT perhaps, as it's not an actual crime in my mind? The owner is committing an offence though. Hmmm :rubchin:

Will likely just give the local police number a ring and mention it. The car parks up during the day, I've seen it before - so isn't a local resident. Shouldn't make much difference though I'd imagine.

Oops, Sorry Bum info from me Steve

No worries, cheers for that

I reported a car that had been used in a similar conidtion next door that then sat for months on the road with no tax or insurance. The a strange co-incidence occured a couple of weeks back... it got towed away... hmmmm

Am I right in thinking they can issue a note on the police system to stop it if they spot it driving around? So hopefully it will be pulled if they spot it driving in the reported condition.

On the subject of dangerous cars is ther a way of reporting the idiots driving on 1 headlight or sometimes worse which seems to be about 1 in 20 cars now!

Do the police not see these idiots like we do, sometimes the same car on a regular basis.

We could do with a national phoneline for that. I nearly took out a Mondeo in a narrow lane last night, 1 headlight pasenger side no other lights at all. Not suprising he was on my side of the road!

Trouble is, traffic enforcement still seems to begin and end with one of these as far as some Chief Constables are concerned:

And they can't tell if your car's roadworthy...

Even that appears to heve only 1 light !!

Stick a note under the wiper with the tel no of the local police shop on it & "You have x days to sort your tyres out before I report you"

Gives them a chance but tells them you mean business. Slight downside is the risk of a 'Good Kicking'.

Take a note of number and where parked .Then next time you spot a traffic car locally -pass it on .While back I spotted young lad accross the road bad a bulge on front tyre - ( he'd only just passed his test so plenty of excuses) -passed it on to his mum - next thing I saw the tyre get swapped onto the other side -and for the next little while I got grief.Forget being nice -not worth it these days -let the traffic lads do it properly -they won't get/take the grief .And as a bonus -the more of these they get ,the more it (should ) stand out that a cop in a car stops more problems than PC Gatso .

Should have rung them when I spotted the footballer Mido at Wigan without a current tax disc on his £350,000 Car:(

Here’s the proof. The picture was taken in March.

It's taxed for another year now :(

Maybe it was 'in the post' ?

It is an offence to not display a current tax disk even if you have it IIRC.

Either way, watch out next year and get a newspaper ready to take a photo with it :D

Have to say I hate footballers. Seem to get away with murder.

  • Author

Oh yes, absolutely - offence of 'failure to display'. I'm just thinking of the defences already and the getting away with it - like you say, it happens a lot.

LIke Ronaldo and the tunnel incident. Each time I pass that spot I wonder if he ever had to pay out anything at all for the cost of attending and fixing all his merry work

Steve

The funny thing was Midos stuffed the car into a bankside as he reverse parked the car. I waited till around 23:00hrs for him to leave just so I could see the damage he had done once he left.

The result was

a) The bankside had a bit of squished soil

B) A couple of trunks from medium sized bush’s were snapped off

c) His RR had a staved in rear valance and a bent looking exhaust

d) We had a good laugh
