Air filter - what did I do wrong?!

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Right well on me travels today I picked up a new OEM panel filter the vRS. Cracked on and got the screws out and the top off - no probs.

However, then I saw the state of the old filter....

:eek::thumbdwn:

As you can imagine I was a LITTLE suprised to see a large amount of cr@p on what is (in my eyes) the wrong side of the paper....inc dead bugs, leaves, and a feather.

Now this filter has only done 10k miles, the previous (on for 35k) was not in this state. However, I am wondering if I did something incorrect when I replaced it last time. The self-tappers were screwed home tight, but you can still glimpse a line of the orange rubber on left when the top is replaced.

(Other info - pd160 intake, and parking close to oak trees!)

Any ideas?

True - but an impressive collection of bugs and stuff!

nothing to worry about with that ian, you'd be surprised just how much suck there is on full boost, everything gets pulled in

That's why there's a filter.

Cheers for all the quick replies folks - now I look at it, of COURSE it's the dirty side! Guess that was my "spanner" moment for the day!

You'd think, but when I showed it to SWMBO she was disappointingly unimpressed...especially when i started to take the photo's on the lounge rug...!

Thanks again guys

Ian

If the airbox worked the other way round the filter would end up collecting quite a lot of water.

While trying to make sure I put the pollen filter back in the right way up on my octavia I managed to put it in back to front. It got nicely stuck and I lost quite a lot of skin getting it back out.

Mine had gone 26K without being changed and it was far far worse than the one your showing! For the cost, definitely be replacing them at every service interval.... Now the pollen filter was something else *rolls eyes*. Probably had never been changed!

If it wasn't for the foam on the pollen filter, i dont think i'd have been able to see it given its colour :)

Just keep replacing as and when, now you know that they are doing their intended job.
