Fabia 1.4 8V X reg any advice

Featured Replies

Hi,

Just woundering if anyone here has any idea to this ?

breif history I have got a 2000 Fabia 1.4 8V classic, has 70,000 on the clock, 6 months ago the oil light came on and it lost power, was able to get it to a garage who looked at it, the oil pump seemed ok but it was not pumping the oil around, also the ecu was reporting errors with the ecu, from what I remember being told, out of work and not able to afford further looking into the problem was told the best option would be to just bung a cheap engine in and put up with the ecu light being on as I would only be using it for a runabout, anyways since then it has been sat in the corner of the garage lock up, been using him for years so luckily it has not bothered him yet being sat there, it has an AQW engine in it and I have seen they are about 300-400 delivered on ebay by the time it is fitted and MOT it price will be same as buying a cheap good runabout but will still have the ecu fault well light on wont bother me if it goes from a to b are there any other engine polo or anything that will fit it easily, if i didnt still owe family money from when I brought it 6 months before it died I would have just scrapped it just looking at the cheapest way to get it going or just cutting my loses

Thanks

Matt

That engine was only used in the Fabia so it will not be economical to convert to another engine. If the oil was not getting pumped, I would think that the engine will sound like a bag of nails, is that the case? The oil pressure sensors fail on these engines.

It would help to know what the ECU errors are. When I last encountered one of thses engines with similar problems, replacing the engine bay wiring loom sorted it. Quite often water in the loom where it runs through the bulkhead behind the ECU can cause all sorts of faults, if you're lucky, drying it out can effect a cure. For used parts a company called Roadside Rescue in Poole are excellent, their phone number is 01202 722666.
