DPF re-gen

Featured Replies

That reinforces my understanding too Alex. About 600 miles seems about right then for mine.

It's a bit odd till you realise what's going on. I thought there was something wrong too when mine did it but a few searches on here described the same symptoms and I was relieved to hear that's what it's meant to do.

Do you have a TDI? Your details say TFSI.

I used to have a vRS TFSi, I then replaced it with the Passat PD170 DSG Sport thats shown in my sig

Hiya Alltorque, my octy's DPF regens almost everyday. I do a fairly long commute and if doesn't regen one day, it regens the day after. I don't rag my car, usually 70-80 mph on motorway. It probably varies from car to car. It is also probably affected by ambient temp. and quality of diesel used aswell.

One thing is for sure, i never ever see soot blowing from the exhaust. It's quite weird because my fabia vrs i used to have blew soot like a mill chimney!

Out of interest , has anyone checked what effect the regeneration has on your fuel consumption?

Can you see the average dropping?

Just read in a French forum that 80.000 miles would be the life-expectancy of a DPF. After this mileage, the car would regen constantly... Is that a fact?

Guess it's difficult to see the average dropping. Easier to see instant consumption going up for a while (1.1, 1.2lt/h, in place of my usual 0.5/0,6 lt/h when idling).

I must add that this behaviour seems not constant. Sometimes it seems regen happens at 0.5lt/h i.e.: at usual consumption, at as shown on board computer, at least...

quick question lads, is there any way to manually kick this off, i've often got it on my car about a mile from my house after driving 45 miles, but i'm so close to the house i come to the junction and when you go into neutral at the lights the regen stops again without finishing in my opionon.

you defo know its on with the Revs at 1k and the deeper exhaust note as discribed above.

i know you can do it with VAG,COM software but just wanted to know if you can do it another way.

drive 10 minutes in 4th at 80kph?
