Is the Felicia Ill?

Featured Replies

Hey all, I'm looking for some advise on a V reg Skoda Felicia someone at work has for sale and just wanted to run what I see as a problem by you guys first. So the first thing is when revving it up it sounds a bit (one for a better word) bubbly don't suppose that a big problem, Id imagine some Redex would sort that out. The second thing and this is what I think could be the biggy..... Once the car was warmed up and ticking over I decided to take the expansion tank cap off and have a peek inside, in the passed people have told me to look for bubbles as this allegedy is a sign of a busted cylinder head gasket  anyway I took it off and everything started going mental, there was pretty big air bubbles coming from the bottom hose into the expansion tank and blowing water out, from what i could make out there is no mixing of water and oil going on and there are no big clouds of white smoke. I did initially think it might be a goosed thermostat but the heater was blowing hot?

I'm no mechanic and don't quite know if this is normal or somethings wrong, could anyone shed some light.

Many thanks

Bill

you will get bubbles coming out if it's hot, water boils at a higher temperature when it's under pressure, so when you take the cap off if releases the pressure and it boils simple... i've seen people get some very nasty scalds like this before now...

what do you mean when it sounds bubbly?? can you be more specific? my first thought would be a hole in the exhuast somewhere to be honest

It's best to check the water levels when the engine is cold, so you can top it up if required.

You'll know if oil and water mix if you check under the oil filler cap you'll see something like "mayonnaise"

Sounds "bubbly" the 1.3 does sound a bit rattly but thatys just the way it is.

Redex, a tanklful and a good run after a service might make it sound smoother.
