Having a new bathroom in a week or two. Had a call from the tile company to say our tiles were now in stock..."we can pick them up". They could of course deliver but as we were not working that day and doing our out and about bit, thought we would pop in and get them to save having to stay in on another day. Upon arrival we completed the formalities and the guy said..."what car have you got?". Told him, and his reaction was that he didn't know what one of them was. "But at least it's an estate car so it should be alright", he said. It then dawned on me rather late (due to being on hols with a relaxed brain!!) that these tiles would be heavy. "How heavy"?, I said. "Third of a ton" he said. "Blimey" my relaxed brain retorted. Thankfully...I had my wife with me...like the car...she's a fantastic load lugger. Anyhoo...next thing a large pallet of tiles arrives with a bloke who said he would load the car. He looked at the Fabia Estate and said "yea...that will do nicely!" Not being sure if the car would be happy I carried out some quick calcs. Luckily...I had memorised the load capacity of the estate (don't ask me why, 515kg) converted it to proper money and came up with 1133 lbs. Worked out very quickly the weight of wife, me and various other items in the car. Checked the fuel gauge to see how much diesel in her. Spent several minutes scratching head to finally realise I would have only a small payload capacity left over of around 80lbs. Blimey I thought! Better be careful how we load her and get as much of it as far forward as poss. Perhaps put wife on roof bars and fill passenger side with tiles...she refused! So...in went the tiles with seats down of course. Down went the suspension especially at the back. Never had so much weight in her before. Amazingly, everything was fine. The 1.4TDI engine didn't even know we had any extra weight on board and the car performed faultlessly. Wow! Happy happy. Errr...sorry a bit long! I'll go now.
