reverse switch?

Featured Replies

Hi guys

Hope you can help, i've got an octavia sdi (an old taxi) and the reverse lights having gone a bit weird. When i put the car nito reverse, as soon as i let go of the gear stick the reverse lights go off, but if i keep the stick held into place the lights stay on. Im guessing its the switch, so i have ordered one of ebay. The thing is, i dont know where it goes  am i right in thinking its on the gearbox somewhere, if so, where? and how easy is it to get the old one off and new one on?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Usually top of the gearbox, near the shift cables. Check the wires to the switch haven't broken first, but it sounds like a duff switch.

Right, I may be being really dim here. But, I cant find the switch anywhere on my gearbox. Here is a pic of the top of my gearbox

looking at other threads on here people refer to a "turret" type thing on the top of the box, but mine hasnt got that??

Just incase i've been sent the wrong part, as I have no idea what it's meant to look like, this is what i've been sent

Any more help would be great.

Thanks

Hmm your gearbox is nothing like mine! Doesn't look like it's cable operated. I can see some funky linkages and rods in the background.

Go to Skoda to get the correct part number for your car. Or have a good look around the gearbox to find something that looks like the new switch that you have!

Other than that, try the Haynes manual.

Could it be by the gear stick rather than on the gearbox?

I can see reverse switch on the top of gearbox... black thing with wires to it!
