Timing belt change

Featured Replies

My dealer has advised me that the timing belt (chain?) on my Octy II vRS is due to be changed at the 4 year service - this came as a surprise to me on two counts. Firstly I thought the guidance to dealers was to inspect the timing belt, not change it and secondly, 48k miles doesn't seem much distance to me.

Anyone out in Biskoda land have any views?

diesel or petrol ?

My manual (TDI) says change toothed belt (cam belt) at 150,000km (about 94000 miles). The belt is not specifically mentioned at the 60000km/4 year service.

However on all the other cars Ive owned the cam belt got changed between 60K and 80K miles, 94K miles seems alot to me.

Interestingly on another Skoda servicing schedule Ive found for non-VRS (1.9 L TDI) it says change cam belt & tensioner at 40K miles (or 60K miles - if chassis number beyond Y2311526 )- maybe your dealer is thinking about these models.

Slightly different car I know, but its the same with mine. I was told by Skoda's that the cam belts on the Octy 1 vrs are due every 4 years, or 112,000! Bit of a random schedule, 112k is a lot to cover in 4 years...

Your dealer is misinformed.

I changed mine @ 83k and 2yrs on a Tfsi.

Skoda are now advising you to change the cambelt at 4 years regardless if the mileage for the cambelt change has not been reached.

2.0 TFSI Petrol - sorry. Service will be at 58,000 miles.

Sounds like they aren't being overly pushy then...
