Console bush question

Featured Replies

good morning all,

very very quick question here, if anyone can advise.

are the lower front console bush's on the front subframe classed as a mounting?

for info purposes, it is a fabia 1.2 HTP on 03 plate.

reason i am asking is that it has failed it's MOT on this, and am trying to figure out if it's covered under warranty that i have. the tesco's finest warranty i have covers wear & tear items, and under suspension the only things it doesnt cover is 'mountings, wheels & tyres'

any assistance greatly appreciated.

kind regards

I think that's a very difficult question.

The term 'mounting' is very generic. Personally I would say that a mounting doesn't move or flex - i.e. it is a bracket or rubber block between a suspension component and the chassis. A 'bush' is not a mounting because its actually part of the suspension (torsional flexing).

However Tesco may well argue differently.....

thanks for your input hauptmann, any other comments always welcome.

i am getting my garage to contact the warranty company to discuss it. i will post what they say when i know myself.

regards

Haha, what a coincidence I just got an MOT advisory on "nearside front (rear) Radius arm rubber mounting deteriorated but not resulting in excessive movement".

Any ideas??

update..............

have now spoken with my garage, who has spoken with the warranty company. as only 1 of the bushes has failed, they have agreed to pay the cost of repairing that, however the garage has reccomended that these be done in pairs, so i have to pay for the other one!

they are also paying for the bulbs that were out too............

suppose it's better than nothing.

Not a bad result at all.

I would ask them to replace the bushes with the Cupra items (much more durable) rather than the OE Fabia ones - only a couple of quid extra for you to pay. Search on here for the part number.

PS - ideally the wheel alignment should be checked after this job. I would try to argue that since its part and parcel of the job (to make the car safe to drive) the warranty company should pay for that too.

Is that the bush as well?

Yes, that's the bush.

If its an 'advisory' that means its OK at the moment, but 'keep and eye on it'. Chances are it'll need replacing before next MoT.

Hauptman, once again thanks for your comments. to be honest, not really bothered about the Cupra ones for 2 main reasons. 1 - they have some OE ones in stock (i presume they are these ones, as it's a Skoda / VW Express fit center she has gone to) and are doing it as i speak, rather than having to order the parts in. 2 - Suzy was 3 years old when i bought her 3 years ago, so the console bushes have infact lasted 6 years. doubt i'll still have her in 6 years time (but please dont tell her that - she'll get upset and start leaking oil or something..............).

will check with them regarding the wheel alignment.................

cheers

I thought mine had been done when I bought it a year ago due to knocking suspension on the test drive. In which case the Skoda OE ones have deteriorated after only a year. :thumbdwn:
