Stuttering Engine

Featured Replies

I was on the way to work this morning which is usually a 20 minute drive when i noticed the engine stuttering every time i put my foot down from around the 1500rpm mark upto around 3000rpm it was very wet outside but from owning diesels for many years doesn't usually effect performance in a negative way. I know the VRS Fabias do have a stutter but i thought this was only around the 2000rpm mark, i am hoping to get the egr valve gasket replaced shortly with the one with the smaller opening as per all the threads on here but wandered if any can shed any light on the wider spread stutter almost misfire i seem to have on damp days. lastnight on the way home it was a lot colder than normal but it went like a rocket no stuttering or anything. the only other difference is i filled up with diesel lastnight at my local texaco station???

Would be worth having it scanned for fault codes. Sounds like a fuel issue, so fuel filter may need changed or simply drained to get rid of any water in the system.

What year is your vRS, two different engine codes, one often has stutter problem the other rarely so the gasket may not have any noticeable effect if you've an ASZ engine.

Although above sounds like something else.

Hi its a 56 plate...

Hi its a 56 plate...

BLT Then!

If you've had no problems prior to filling up the other night, Therein lies your problem!

Mine stutters, I quite like it,............unique......:)

As Mike says I'd suspect the fuel. Filter is cheap so worth changing it anyway, be careful of the connectors at the top if you do it yourself though, they can break fairly easily.

Could be the heavy rain affected the tanks in the Texaco service station and some water got in the fuel lines.

Cheers guys, i spoke to my brother who's a mechanic and he thought the air flow meter, would this show up on a diagnostic computer as a fault code if the airflow meter was dodgy? Think i'll still get the fuel filter changed though as it won't do any harm.

The easy test for the MAF is unplug it while the cars running and if there's no change to the engines running then the MAF's goosed!

Though i could be completely wrong!
