Just wondered if anyone had any suggestions for cheaper alternatives to the networks insurance for the iphone???

Gonna be getting one with orange this next few weeks and just wanted to check if there were any good insurance providers out there for the iphone.

Mate of mine tried using his bank's cover to replace his Iphone after a gravity induced rearrangement of the front screen. 5 weeks later he is still waiting for a solution.

Problem is, the Iphone is band 5... meaning it will cost a fair bit anyway.

Orange care is one of the best, and 24 replacement to anywhere - some cases can be same day!

Not sure what they charge, but used to be £5/month flat fee with an excess only payable if it was your fault (ie dropped and cracked the screen etc)

Yeah i remember Orange Care was good when i was with them upto a couple of years ago when i moved to Vodafone. Will look in to how much they charge these days but i reckon they may have gone up a little in line with the other suppliers and be around the £7.50 a month mark.

I bank with TSB, got insurance with the "Silver" account, had a phone replaced in 24hrs before, for £30 excess.

I've had a personal mobile for over 12 years (and a work one as well for most of that time) and I've never bothered with insurance.

The only cost I've had is about £45 earlier this year to replace a cracked screen when I dropped my N85.

Have to say the heads-up from Babs on the TSB Silver account seems a good one - £7.95 per month for phone insurance, plus basic AA cover and EU travel insurance amounts others. One i'll be taking a look at - if there isn't a minimum monthly deposit required for this account it might be worth opening one with £95.40 just for this for the year!

No, no monthly deposit as far as I'm aware, just the charge for the account. This was halved for the first 3 months for me, too.

Thats the insurance my mate had and he is still waiting for a replacement. Iphones tend to be problematic when it cones to replacement.

I don't know why piePhones would be problematic? Surely the insurance just go to the supplier, and say "I can has iPhone? Kthnxbai!" and then they send newly retrieved iPhone to the customer?

I know from experience that RBS wont touch the iphone with their Royalties Gold Inclusive insurance.

Insured the Blackberry Curve FOC no probs though.

Few of these free insurances will cover the piephone. Main reason, as high theft risk

I've gone down the 'bank' route.

My Graduate Additions account with Barclays is inclusive of mobile phone insurance (inc. iphones). I think most banks offer similar add-on packages these days with increased overdraft facilities etc.

Another vote fro LTSB insurance through current account. Covered IPhone fine. Have claimed before on other phones and all was sorted very quickly. We have a phone covered each on our joint account to get the most out of it.
