My steering angle sensor has gone apparently and the fact that it causes the power steering to go is nothing but y lights flickering is bloody annoying. SUrely with all the complaints I have read about this it should be s 'known' fault and therefore repaired free of charge?????

Thread moved to fabia forum, Welcome to the forums,

Hi Kay.

From what you actually say, I suspect this is a newish car, and an on-going issue that the dealer has failed to resolve? If so, then as long as it was notified in warranty, they have to keep going until they get it sorted.

Otherwise, a non-working PAS is an MOT failure. Without knowing more, I can't even consider advising as to the reason for the warning light, other than that it could be an alternator fault leading to low output, and that's causing the PAS to stop because it's a high consumption unit.

its a 2001 car but have only done 34,000 miles so far but am concerned that it is going to cost a lot to rplace the S A S which will hoefully cure the problem, but if not then I am up the swanny without a paddle as am out of work and need car for any forthcoming interviews (fingers crossed), but until then I am stony broke.

Next best advice would be to check the Diagostics and VAGCOM forum for someone near you who'd read fault codes for free or beer tokens, so we can find out what if anything the electronics think is wrong.
