Lowering a VRS 170 CR

Featured Replies

OK, its going to be a spring job - can't afford the shocks too and to be honest, I'm ok with the standard jobbies. Leaning towards Eibach but was wondering what the genuine Skoda "Sports" kit is like and can it be fitted to the VRS? I understand its lower than ther VRS setup?

I have the sports kit on my Elegance from new and I recently replaced my shocks with Vrs shocks, so I think you should be ok. I left the original springs in place and I think with the Vrs shocks the car is sitting slightly higher, is it possible the Vrs shocks have a slightly longer travel ?? Also you should look at "Weitec" , you can get a full set (shocks/springs) for £450+vat.

The Skoda accessory springs are actually Eibachs, I went for them for that reason. There's some pictures in this forum of befores and afters if you do a quick search on my username and specify this forum section

Just dropped mine with PI springs -30mm, well happy with the result, and at £105 delivered I can't grumble.

Hi Eibach springs are very good quality

We have had a few cars here that have been lowered and then they come in to have them removed because of ride quality

Eibachs are excellent quality ;)

Awesome > Eibach Spring Kits

Then you know that they are meant for your specific car

I'd stick with Eibachs from personal experience of other springs (inc the PI's mentioned above). The ultimate in my eyes is these combined with the fsd dampers but these can always be fitted later when the standard ones are showing signs of wear. :)

This is the third car I've used PI's on, in conjunction with std shocks and spax adjustable, never had a problem.......so far!

My biggest problems with the PI springs was the handling in the wet - iirc they werent a progressive design like the Eibachs and the compression qualities made the car very snappy when driving hard in damp/wet conditions. After 1600 miles I'd had enough of them - the ride quality and higher speed handling characterists on the replacement Eibachs were far far better imo.

For info, Eibach are the only spring manufacturers out of those mentioned that actually develop the springs on the specific vehicle in question.

Eibachs are even cheaper through Skoda as an accessory btw. Iirc I paid £110 for mine via this route.

I've had spax on a golf - was not impressed - as a result I'd always avoid a move from factory spec unless I was going for top quality replacement.

In contrast, I had eibach springs (with bilstein dampers) on my lotus - absolutely fantastic ride and handling.

For my vrs I've spec'd the skoda accessory springs (eibach) and have some KONI fsd dampers to go on also, based on feedback and research - hopefully this setup will be as good as others have said :-)

Hi Rob,

I presume the Eibach's on your Lotus were standard...they were on my VX until I replaced them with Exige Eibachs...bit of a mistake as I forgot the Exige was heavier than the VX!

I now wince everytime I see a pothole & have far fewer fillings!!:Yikes:

I wonder if I can get Eibach's on the VRS without SWMBO finding out...?:)

Gutted. I never thought to order my new FL VRS with eibach springs from the factory as its not on the normal options list. :( Too late now as mine arrived last week :) I'll go Eibach FSD next year sometime instead. Need get remap, W.A.L.K and R.A.R.B first when I've racked up 1000miles

Plus we price match and I will beat any price ;)

The ones I have are specific to the car and progressive rated, but only time will tell, I will let you know if "I told you so" is appropriate.

?koda Accessories £138 quid, dealer accessory not a factory fit option.

don't know what was on as standard but after 80k miles it was completely shgged and rusty as fck :) the eibach and (height adjustable) bilsteins was factory fitment for the last 40(?) esprits off the production line before prodution stopped - i managed to get hold of a set for my V8-GT

You gotta sk why the hatch springs are more expensive? I think its a **** up personally!!

  • 2 weeks later...

Would a 30mm drop with these Eibach springs on the FL vRS require a change of dampers too or would the OEM cope fine with that?

In other words what's the maximum drop on OEM dampers without causing any undue stress/damage on them

HI

It depends on how many miles you have done with the shockers

Anything from around 40k miles , I usually advise shockers to go with them , as it is the shockers that wear
