1.2 HTP 3 cyl exhaust issue.

Featured Replies

Hey, I feel I must apologise as I dont own a skoda but have been asked for urgent help from a friend who does and she can not afford the garage bills atm.It also may be a little vague as she wasn't really, well, forthcoming with info on the car. Basically the info I got was that it is a 3 cylinder, maybe 1.4lt, petrol car.

It is def a mk1, and seeing as she fills it with fuel, i'm guessing it is petrol and she appeared adamant it was a 3 cyl. Going on that, I'm guessing it is the 1.2 lt HTP 6/12v mk1. Basically, a warning light has come on which is apparently the exhaust warning light (apparently that is what the handbook states).

This is where my knowledge gets even worse as my specialty is mini's(i.e. a carb with electric system consisting of 3 wires) I guessed at lamba senser but after a little research I heard other things mentioned such as mixture could be wrong, resulting in a damaged cat, or some air recirculation system?!?!?!!??! or possibly MAP sensor(is it exhaust manifold?)

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Dave

Sorry, just got an update, it is officially the "control system for exhaust gases" light. So i'm guessing MAP or lamba either reading something is wrong, or being wrong themselves. (Do they have a MAF?)

Dave

it could really be anything, the car needs the fault codes reading to ascertain the problem, it shouldn't cost too much to have the fault codes read at an independant VAG garage, then she will have an idea on the costs involved to repair, but the longer it is left, the more likely something else will fail due to the original fault

Davey, they definately have a MAF, as i've had one fitted to mine recently.

is there any unusual fatures to the way the car is running (ie is it juddery, feel like it is stalling, excessive fuel consumption..........?). Like Ric04vrs has said, it could be one or more of any number of problems, and a VAGCOM check would soon identify the problems. there is a section on here that lists members with access to VAGCOM - maybe have a look see if any are local, as you could negotiate with them, and to diagnose your car might only end up costing a few beer tokens.....

and yes, if it is the 1.2 Htp, it definately is just 3 cyl.........
