Faulty air con temperature controls?

Featured Replies

Hi all, I have a VRs TDi Fabia Ltd, the previous car was a standard VRs TDi and both seem to to suffer from faulty temperature controls. The air con works OK but when on fully cold, if I move the rotary control one or two "clicks" towards warm the air con goes to full heat. Likewise one or two clicks returns it to fully cold. Having put up with this on two successive VRs Fabias I'm getting fed up with it. Is this a known fault and should the dealer fix it before the warranty runs out in April '10? Is there a fix? Thanks.

it all depends on how long it has been hot for - the system is a semi auto system - if for instance the outside temperature is 2 celcius and you set the temperature to just above 'cold' it will warm the car up to about 18/19 degrees, once it get to that temperature it will then maintain it.

if for instance it is 30 celcius outside and you have it set on 22, it will just blow cold until it cools the interior of the car to that temperature, whereupon it will maintain it.

so yes it will blow hot at times when set just above fully cold. it will also at time blow cold when set to warm, or in really hot weather when set to quite hot.

its all in the handbook too ;p

if it stays hot and just keps heating the interior up to an unbearable level there is a fault, but these clever systems take some getting used to. I think they work well and logically, mine stays on 18-19 all year long.

obviously if this is all claptrap I am sure I will be corrected! (and kittens will be threatened!)

Its a 'feature' of manual climate control, I believe they are all the same.

Thanks, it certainly doesn't control the temperature as such, it's either freezing or roasting. As I have owned two VRs's both behaving the same, I guess that's just how they are then. Oh well.........................

I had the same problem, No fault codes were found for about 3 months, eventually the evap temp sensor showed a fault, Air con by then was no longer cold.

Sensor changed and problems were solved.

And here is the link for a how to replace sensor

Hope this is of some help to you?

Mine did the same thing and was cured by cleaning the sensor of dust. It's located behind the little grill next the the Re/Circ button. Took the face plate off, blew it clean, and now its fine again. :)

It probalby that of the EVAP sensors as said before.

I'm thinking faulty heater flap motor, or it needs resetting.

Cheers, it seems there's more to this than I had imagined. I will get it looked at before the warranty expires.
