Wipers hitting screen edge, occasionally!

Featured Replies

Bit of a strange one this. Over the last few months, only on two or three occasions and completely randomly, the drivers blade has started hitting the screen surround. With a particularly annoying noise! There have been plenty of other times I've used the wipers and it's been fine. This is on normal speed wiping in "normal", not heavy, rainfall.

If it were doing it consistently or I had changed blades or something similar recently I could understand but I haven't. Quite the reverse, everything is standard and un-molested.

Anyone had anything similar?

Tada!

Mine was doing this as well, I changed the blades (as they were dead) and the knocking stopped.

Maybe cos they were slighty shorter, or more friction on the screen, but either way, some suggestions there.

Mine started doing that last week too.

I took the cap and nut off the wiper arm, turned the wiper arm on the spline, put the nut and cap back on and hey presto.

Up untill last week they were ok but very noisy when sweeping the screen.

I think the extra friction and vibrating when sweeping the screen probably moved them out of place slightly.

I hope that makes sense.

It was VERY easy to fix.

Thanks for all the replies, I had searched but not found that thread.

As it is only doing it very intermittently (excuse the pun) I'm guessing it's probably a worn linkage but it looks like moving the arm is the solution so I will have a play arond with it.

mine only did it everynow and again i lowered them both on the splines and it never hits at all now even on the fastest speed.
