Phone kit GPRS

Featured Replies

Morning all

Has anyone ever managed to use the factory-fit phone kit for GPRS data?

On my FL, I've added the Access Point but it won't work. I have push email and even when parked up, I cannot access it along with normal data unless I switch off and disconnect.

Am I missing something or is data an additional module?

When disconnected it works perfectly so I know it's not the handset or my connection.

Thanks

That's what I thought. Voice is fine, yet GPRS, zilch, nil, nada.

Hmmm, few answers, but at least I think I've discovered what the GPRS A/P settings are now for, which was my initial puzzle. I guess it can only work for scheduled/shoulder-tap tasks like push email or remote sync, unless you could theoretically still use a browser on your handset (while stopped, naturally!) through the car's SIM and GPRS settings.

Anyone really understand this, or is actively using it for anything? Any experience?

Is there any way of forcing the Skoda kit to use Headset or Hands-free profiles rather than SIM Access profile? If so, this would leave the phone being the phone & data working as normal...

Sadly not, bluetooth is not used in the same way when using RSAP. Bluetooth is just being used as a wireless communications protocol, not in the traditional sense that you would normally associate with mobile phones. The only way to get the handsfree protocol on the new VAG bluetooth kits is to rip out the installed module and replace it with an older generation one.

Most handsets disable data when a car kits is used for safety reasons.

IIRC there's an EU directive making it mandatory next year

Really ?

That's TomTom and Garmin users screwed then, eh ?

What about Mercedes' and Ferrari's that can use your data connection to phone the garage and tell 'em what your car is up to ?

Just to let you know that my NEW TomTom live talks to the car very nicely via bluetooth for internet connection.

yay.
