DVD Rip or h264 MP4?

Featured Replies

Since fitting a larger hard disk i've installed my

movies and started to RIP are DVDs. Now is it worth keeping the rips or convert them to h264 MP4s? If to convert what bitrate would you choose to keep video quality?

Thanks

Storage is so cheap now. Given that a 1TB drive is 50 quid now and you could fit 200 movies on it, that's 25p per un-recompressed rip. Tempting not to recompress at that price isn't it.

Yep , it's pointless converting them with the associated loss of quality when disk space is so cheap.

I'm tempted to do something similar with a load of my DVDs and get rid of them.

The only trouble is I'd want to have a backup which means at least two drives.

Thanks for the comments. Yeah does seem daft to convert the with space being cheap.

I have an external drive that I use for a backup. Works well with ms synctoy.
