Oil leak from EGR valve ?

Featured Replies

just back from a service and been advised i have an oil leak from the EGR valve, i do have a warranty on the car but this isnt a named component so isnt covered

as i understand it, it doesnt carry any oil, however oil may collect in it from the turbo/intake etc

been given a quote of £232 inc vat

if its leaking some oil, surely i only need a gasket ?

Most likely the EGR diaphragm has persished, and oil is coming out of the small breather hole. It's only oil from the PCV system, but if the EGR is goosed, it will need replacing or deleted anyway,

ive not noticed any issues

mine was the same, if you search my name and egr it'll show some pics i took. I took my egr out on saturday and have now got a Allard egr delete pipe, the egr was full off black stuff and just needed a really good clean.

What have you been quoted for? i would've only thought you would need it cleaning, which you could do yourself??

Followed by elephant's trunk mod and problem gone.

I was told that the oil coming out of the hole is normal?

Its got to come out somewhere?

pip did you get it done under warranty ?

i.e. do you have a new EGR thats been took off for sale ?

I was also told by a mechanic that its a trait of a perished diaphragm, mine wasn't too bad when i bought the car at 117k.

But at 138k it was really running down the intake manifold/EGR pipe from the turbo and the back of the block.

There usually £180+ and i think thats without VAT, but mine was for a PD105.

na, in the end i just took it off.

I'm going to clean mine up and whack it on ebay i think :P

i can get the EGR for about £175 so might try fitting it myself in a few weeks, they said it wasnt too bad yet, doesnt need doing urgently

I removed mine about 6 months ago, after 70k the black gunk inside was caked on - I also took the manifold off and cleaned that up as well with a whole can of Wyns Carb cleaner. Really messy job but worth it to know theres only clean air passing through.

My effort can be viewed here http://briskoda.net/fabia-i/weekends-work/152070/ I still havent got the CEL mapped out, largely because Im planning on having it done the same time as my stage 2 Revo map so have to buy an exhaust system. I keep an eye on it with VagCom and cant report any problems to date. I should comment engine shudder on shut down is minimal IMO.

"Clean air" from an exhaust?

I agree there, only had it a few days and got used to it.

Hi: I've an 05 Octavia 1.9TDI 99,000 miles and it was leaking oil from underneath the turbo pipe. It can happen if you're not driving the car hard enough, not sure the correct way of it but it's oil that builds up because the turbo's not being used. I drive like a granny so can't argue. Apparently turbo diesels need to be flogged now and again to keep them breathing right. You can buy stuff to pour into the tank called Cataclean, a mechanic sold it to me but most motor factors have it. It cleans the cat, turbo, valves etc and other parts that need it. It's about £16 I used it on mine and it's fine now.

Mst likely this is what's causing it.
