Dual monitor setup

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Does anyone know of any software I can use so that I can have 2 active applications open at the same time? I have a Nvidia Quadro FX 1800 card and all is well if Im working in Avid or Adboe apps but if for simplicity say I wanted to have a film on one screen and explorer open on another what do I need to do to keep both active?

Any ideas ? Thanks, John

Not sure I know what you mean... you just drag the window across to your other monitor then maximise it.

If you wanted to watch a video on the other monitor do the same but don't click on the desktop on the other monitor or it will exit full screen (with windows media player anyway).

I used this program while I had a dual monitor setup that gave me a second taskbar on the second monitor:

Exactly! Im sure there is some software available which keeps a couple open apps 'active' i.e. if you clicked on the internet page it wouldnt minimize the other screen. Does that make sense?

Maybe the software you mentioned above will do it if you have a second task bar?

John

It shouldn't minimize the other window just make it not "active" in that what you type or do with the scroll mouse won't affect that window but the other active window. It will still stay maximised.

Hope that makes sense...

Phil

You can't have two apps as active, the computer would get confused regarding inputs.

Yeah apologies, I just meant it would'nt minimise to the task bar or snap from full screen back to it's window. Difficult to describe stuff like this :). Guess I'll try the above above app to give me a second task bar and see how that works out, hopefully it wont screw with my Nvidia settings as Avid Media Composer does not like being messed with when it comes to display drivers etc

Thanks for the suggestions. John

Check that the apps in question can be veiwed in a window format rather than fullscreen

mayneed to change the video setup in the application/game..

Ah right! I get you!

Yeah Most applications will maximise to the screen that the majoirty of the window is open in.

I use Photoshop and Premiere over two monitors, but have to drag the window over the two screens.

That program I linked to allows you to move the windows across the monitors quickly by placing little buttons next to the minimise and close buttons. That way you dont have to physically drag the window across then maximise it.

Nifty little piece of kit... although it's not free... unless you know where to look ;)
