7 speed DSG gearbox on VRS

Featured Replies

I have ordered a VRS 2.0TSI with DSG. Having read the latest skoda brochure it shows the 2.0 TSI now having a 7 speed gearbox as per the 1.4 and 1.8 TSI.

Questions,

Will mine have a 7 speed box (build week 48)

Has anyone any experience of both and what are your views

What difference will it make.

Thanks

Sorry, should have asked for comparison of 6 speed against 7.

I think its been said on here before that there is a mistake in the Skoda UK brochure. The Vrs still comes with the 6 speed DSG.

I've not got a vRS, but I've got an 1,8 Elegance coming and according to the spec sheet I've got a DSG 7 box, I believe it's meant to aid economy and emissions, I don't know for 100% if the vRS comes with DSG6 or DSG7, I think it'd be great if it came with DSG7, how much it'd change the economy & emissions I don't know.

As the others know I'm a tad nervous about getting it as this is my first auto (I've got arthritis) and yes I drove a vRS 170CR with DSG and managed reasonably well with it, that was a DSG 6 box & it went like the brown stuff off a shovel..... WHOOOOOOSH!

The 7 speed DSG has a 'dry' clutch and cannot handle the torque from the more powerful engines like the vRS. The vRS has a 6 speed 'wet' clutch.

And therefore needs a costly oil change (60K km?) which you have to take into consideration!

How much is costly?

I am not sure. I heard about 100 Euro + labour.

Ok, its not THAT much.

Sorry, which one needs the oil change the six speed or seven speed box?

The DSG6 needs the oil change and its more like 200euro all in.

Which equals about 2.000 km extra with the petrol 7-DSG FOR FREE every 60K in comparison to the 6-DSG Diesel :D

I prefer the six speeder rather than the seven. It seems to hunt around too much for me.

I heard that these DirektSchaltGetriebe use software to adapt to the driver. This can take some time IMO.

I find that in manual mode, the speed that the box changes cogs will depend directly on how aggressively your using the trottle so that would lead me to believe that the electronics are adaptive.
