My Car is poorly...help!!

Featured Replies

Hey guys. Car went bang tonight!

Driving home, went to overtake and then it went pop then went down to 3 cylinders. Car idles very roughly and even worse at low RPM.

Do you think this could be just a coilpack or something more serious? I'm concerned by the 'upper limit reached' part of the log!

Many thanks :(

Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected suggests that it isn't a coilpack if it's on multiple cylinders.

I read Random/Multiple as Random OR Multiple so it could be 1 cylinder with an intermittent fault.

Don't know what the answer is though :confused:

If you suspect a coil pack, can you clear the odes, swap coil packs between a couple of cylinders and see if the fault moves with the coil pack ?

If it stays the same, it could be the sparking plug.

as soon as i read that befor eyou mentioned that coil pack popped into my head.

Hi Harry

if you google: P0300 - 001 - Upper Limit Exceeded , most of the problems seem to lead to the coil packs.

Did read more often of these coil pack problems.

I wouldn't worry too much about the upper limit reached comment.

Seems lots of things do this when it goes outside of bounds, eg a single misfire in this case.

I'd throw 4 new coil packs at the car and see how it goes.

Totally, that was the info I found when mine went. Almost like the 'implausible signal' that sometimes crops up...

Yep, had virtually the same errors logged on mine Harry, when pack #1 went. See attached.

I have a spare that I no longer need and I can post that tomorrow if that's soon enough. It's certainly no good to me and is a Rev F :thumbup:

Thanks for the offer Steve :thumbup:

I'll pop down to the dealers first thing and get a set of 4 ordered and replace the lot see how things are then.

Looks as if it is a simple fix thank god, it's easy to panic about things this these when you aren't quite sure at first. :o

No probs, I need to shift it anyway as it's daft me having one here on its own :D

Should be £31 apiece mate. Part No. is in my sale post which I'm pretty sure is still the latest revision. And with you on the panic thing, I cr@pped myself when it happened to me :eek:

Good luck :thumbup:

Steve

Hmmm, interesting. The PN on my spare here is 07K 905 715 F. Not sure which brand it is though.

Steve

Harry, keep us updated...

New coilpack ordered and being fitted tomorrow...will post the results - thanks for help guys

From the Ross Tech Wiki:

16684/P0300/000768 - Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected

Possible Causes

* Air Intake System leaking

* Fuel Supply faulty

* Injector(s) faulty

* Ignition Cable(s) and/or Spark Plug(s) faulty

* Ignition Coil(s) faulty

* Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Valve (N18) stuck/open

* Camshaft Position Sensor (G40) faulty

Possible Solutions

* Check Misfire Recognition

* Check Air Intake System

* Check Fuel Supply

* Check Injector(s) and Injector Sealing

* Check Ignition Cable(s) and Spark Plug(s)

* Check Ignition Coil(s)

* Check Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Valve (N18)

* Check Camshaft Position Sensor (G40)

Special Notes

* This DTC indicates that one or multiple cylinders are misfiring, but the ECU fails to identify the cylinder.

16687/P0303/000771 - Cylinder 3 Misfire Detected

Possible Causes

* Ignition system

* Fuel injectors

* Fuel pressure

* Running out of fuel

* EVAP canister purge valve

* Evaporative emission system

* Low compression

* Base engine problems

* Controle Module damaged

Special Notes

* This feature search for engine misfire in a specific cylinder. Most of the time the cause for a misfire is a lack of combustion in a cylinder due to absence of spark, poor fuel metering, or poor compression.

Keep us posted Harry. Hope its the coil pack.

I had this too Harry. 99% sure its a coilpack. When mine went I called Skoda Assist who changed it FOC at the roadside :)

Cheers Tom, let's hope it is infact the coilpack as it's a relatively cheap fix!

Fingers crossed ey :)

whats the going rate for a full set of Coils. I might pick some up to keep in th car just in case

  • Author

I only bought the one Simon, at a cost of £32.

If that doesn't fix it Harry I'd be looking at the crankshaft sensor next, sometimes they clean up, other times they go open circuit, anyway here's hoping you don't need to look any further anyway.

Replaced the coilpack in cylinder 3 - all is well again :D Well done chaps :thumbup:

Great news Harry..

Phew!

Nice one sunshine! :)
