105 PD V 140 CDI Running Temp

Hi all,

I am moving from an Octy with the 105 PD engine to a Yeti with the 2 Ltr 140BHP CDI unit.

My Octy engine gave 5 star service for the time I had it. With the exception of getting to normal running tempreture in winter (which could take 30 minutes of town driving (15 miles)).

This ment that I had defrosting/misting issues in the mornings. Can anyone let me know if the CDI heats up quicker?

Did you mean `no one?` and if so then a lot of an engines that are economical will be slow to heat up due to less wasted heat. The only way you'll find out for the install of that engine in the Yeti is to try it and if it's an issue have a pre-heater or aux heater fitted.

You might be the first on here to have that specific engine

Diesel engines are very thermally efficient, my PD140 takes ages to heat up in the cold weather. I suspect the newer engines will be exactly the same with regards to warming up.

Nissan Pathfinders have a button near the steering column to raise the idle to about 1400RPM for this exact purpose, works pretty well too.

The superior derv fuel economy has to have a downside and you've found it. If anything the CR140 could be a bit worse for warming up as I would guess its even more efficient.

As others have said an auxiliary heater is the only option other than a plug in 12v ceramic heater.

Heated seats are fantastic on cold mornings, they start to warm up in seconds, make sure you spec 'em if they aren't standard.

I got a 200W ceramic heater for the octy, It just made my headlights go dim.

Upon reading your sig I sussed the heated seats were standard :D

16 odd amps from the heater shouldn't have too much effect on your lights. I wouldn't think it will be a major issue on the Yeti, the headlights are xenon and won't dim like halogens.

I'm starting to get annoyed with the defogging time on my car too. I was hoping the air con would run as a heat pump when higher than ambient temperatures were required or that an auxiliary heater was already fitted when they called the system a 'climate control'.

I presume for countries that get properly cold for the winter there are heater options available designed for the existing setup. Has anyone tried retro fitting one to a UK spec car?
