Help! Octy 2 tdi pd problem

Featured Replies

Hiya guys, i think my octy is poorly. Just driving into work this morning and just as i was approaching work, a grinding/scrubbing noise started to ocur from front/engine area of car. It was quite loud and seemed to vary with speed. I was driving quite slowly - 20 to 30 mph. It seemed to make it when i let off the throttle and also when turning.

The car only has 23k miles on it and was serviced in August. I do mainly motorway miles with occasional A and B-roads for my daily commute.

This maybe unrelated but i've noticed on several occasions that when changing gear that as i've engaged the clutch, changed gear then disengaged, the clutch pedal has felt a bit different. It doesn't do this all the time.

I've had a quick look round the car but could not see anything obvious.

Any ideas what this could be??

Your help is appreciated

I had a similar problem - a stone had been thrown up from the road surface and lodged between the front disk and its backing plate. I just flexed the backing plate and the stone fell out.

Had to jack the car up and take the wheel off :(

Cheers for that dsr but i've got a feeling it maybe worse than that. It didn't do it driving home last night

but just as i was pulling onto my works car park this morning it has done it again.

These were the conditions;

1) Grating/grinding/rattling sound from front/engine area of car.

2) Heard in 2nd gear, but not when accelerating, just moving forward.

3) Clutch not depressed at time, just easing off the accelerator.

This is very odd. Someone suggested it could be thrust bearings or wheel bearings.

Anymore ideas???

It could be lots of things - it sounds intermittent :(

I'd be tempted to try coasting in neutral at some point and see if it continues, this would rule out the engine.

It's only 23K miles, if it's still under warranty, get it back to the dealer and get them to listen.
