Someone mentioned to me that the product keys for windows 7 work with both the 32bit and the same 64bit version.

Is this true? If so i'll format my laptop and get the 64bit version on

Yes, the same product key works for the 32 or 64 bit version. All you may need to do is phone the product activation people at Microsoft once you have re-installed.
