Anyone got front parking sensors fitted?

Are they any use?

Ian

Yes. This is my 2nd vRS that has them and I think that they're useful - or I wouldn't have spec'd them!! Obviously if it was a choice between front and back then the rear ones would always get the vote though.

Yep got them on my new Superb II and even only having it a day they are useful.

On the octavia I dont see the point. It has such a short stubby bonnet, that if you need to know where the front actually is, questions need asking about whether you need glasses, and or should be driving IMO.

I saw a new KA with them on FFS! :rotz:

I have them but don't rely on them, in some cases .i.e entering a garage I turn them of as they go nuts as you enter the doorway

Don't they start beeping if you're close to slow moving traffic - say in a traffic jam etc?

Would annoy the hell out of me I think.

Yes, but only if you are very close to the car in front.

I had them on my Octy and they were useful at times BUT as they were always on (with the ignition) when driving in heavy rain or when it was snowing would set them off, a better solution would be to have them switch-able so you can turn them off (mine had a small LCD screen showing which sensor had picked up the object, the speaker was also mounted in the screen and there was a mute switch so the bleep could be turned on/off)

No as the front sensors only activate if you engage reverse 1st or press the button on the dash

You should see what my ex-wife did to our Zafira, and that was even easier to park..........2 smashed bumpers, a running feud with neighbours,.....plus my kids like the sound they make.

I've got them and find them very useful, particularly in tight parking spots and enable parking very close to walls, in spite of what some say about glasses, driving ability, etc. They switch on as engaging reverse or can be switched on/off with a switch on the dash. In any case they switch off automatically when you drive forward more than about 10mph.

pmsl.

I struggle with carparks where they have a low wall or kerb, working out where the bumper is.

Still fancy one of these:

Don't bother Rob, SWMBO has them on her Golf very hit and miss when it's raining (no pun intended)

Ah, not so good then!

Is it possible to retrofit front sensors? What are the likely costs? Seen a few rear sensor retrofits, but am I right in thinking the fronts are more involved as you need to put a switch in the centre console as well as the sensors?
