Coolant Water leaking?

Featured Replies

I have a 1.4 fabia (w registration). The collant warning light was on yesterday. This morning I found there is no water in the plastic tank. I added some water in (about 1 liter to fill it up). When I added the water, it seems some of them direct leaked from the front(right hand side). I added more and then drive for just 2 minutes and then the warning light come on again and the temperature goes up very quickly. I decided to pull over and found out there isn't any water left in the plastic tank any more. It never happen before. Any suggestions, please?

Cracked coolant tank?

Well, it's definitely something that's cracked or burst. All you can do really is keep filling up and looking for the leak. As it sounds like a serious leak, you're probably going to have to drain and refill the system as part of the repair, so you'll be OK just to use ordinary water while you're looking for the leak.

Either that, or take it to a garage... :ne_nau:

Check all the obvious places (water pump area) hoses etc. Take a PARTICULARLY careful look around the fan thermo switch. Its a bit hard to locate (low down on the passenger side of the radiator). After a run, when the car has cooled a bit, feel for moisture at the bottom passenger side of the rad - this is a tell-tale. Its a very common item to leak. Needs removing, a bit of sealant applying and then nip it up (don't over-tighten).

If it's wet around the nearside bottom corner of the rad. facing the engine, then it will be the Rad sensor. The sensor is a few inches above this corner, it has no sealing ring or felt washer and thats why it sometimes leaks. Mine is dribbling occasionally but not serious enough to fix yet, you will have to drain the rad. seal the sensor then refill. Just in case it's not the sensor have a look at the drain plug on the bottom hose and check for leaks elsewhere.
